Helmut Newcake is still amazing. Their main location has changed, and they have another location at "Le Train", which is really cool too (Although maybe slightly dangerous? Got a weird vibe in the general area)
The following pictures are from the Grand Train location:
The next group of pics I got at the main location
This place is worth going back to in itself, neglecting Paris. It’s seriously that good. Here's their facebook page in case you're as obsessed as I am. :) The only thing that I was really disappointed in about Helmut Newcake was that they run out of food really quickly everyday. They have a lot of pastries, but they open every Wed-Sun at 12 and they only serve real food (i.e. Quiche) until they run out. I got there at 12:45pm one day and 1:30pm one day and they had already run out both days. Anyway, on to the pastries, I literally tried almost everything in the case, and I was only disappointed with one pastry. Everything else was beyond my wildest dreams.
(like an apple muffin) (Upper item in photo below) (A)
Financier Amande (Financier Cake)
(Lower item in photo below) (A+)
This muffin was really moist and delicious. I wish it would have had more apples in it, but it was definitely better than any muffin I’ve had in the states Financier cake: I love almond-flavored anything, and this was delicious. So moist and flavorful. I preferred this to the apple muffin, but both were great
Madam de Fouteuay au Chocolat
AMAZING! I prefered the Caramel Beune one, but this was basically like a donut/eclaire. It had this delicious chocolate cream inside with a marshmallow-like substance as the white part of the pastry. The texture and flavor was not at all like any gluten free thing I’ve ever tasted before. Another pic below
(coconut raspberry poundcake)
(On the right)
I kind of expected more coconut flavor in this cake, but it was also delicious. There were raspberries cooked into the bottom of it.
Canneles (middle in photo)
Lemon Cream Puffs (left in photo)
These Canneles were AMAZING! I haven’t had one since I worked at a French restaurant in high school, and I thought I never would again. These were better than what I had in high school because then I got the day-old ones for free, and these were freshly made. The texture and flavor is so amazing because the bottom is caramelized and the inside is so dense and eggy with a delicate vanilla flavor as well. I can’t recommend these enough. A+ I don’t even like lemon, and the lemon cream puffs were so delicious that I couldn’t stop eating them. I was trying to save them for when we got back to the hotel, and I ended up eating the whole bag on the walk and train home. The pastry tastes and feels exactly like a donut and it’s filled with delicious lemon curd/cream. I want to go back so badly!
Le “Pistache Groseilles(sp?)” (Pistachio tart)
I love pistachios, but I wasn’t overly impressed with the flavor of this pistachio-cake thing. It was just lacking enough flavor me
Lemon Tart(missing picture)
The Lemon Tart was amazing! Once again, I don’t like lemon anything for dessert and I love it. The crust on the tart completely tasted gluten-full. I have no idea how these people do it, but they are the best gluten free bakers I have ever encountered.
This chocolate Eclaire was also really good. It tasted a lot like a chocolate cream donut. Once again, I don’t know how they do their pastry dough, but it’s so light and tastes exactly like the real (gluten-full) thing.
Madam de Fouteuay Caramel Beurre
This is my favorite thing that I tried. I’m also not a huge caramel fan as it often tastes too sweet for me, but this was beyond amazing. The caramel filling was so delicious. Everything about this pastry was heaven.
Long story short: GO HERE ASAP!
