La Condesa (Austin)

Rating: A

La Condesa was recommended by our hotel in Austin for gluten free options, and it was DELICIOUS! I loved everything we had. They even had a lot of healthy options if that's what you're in the mood for. This is not your traditional Tex-Mex, but it's very good. I tend to overdo it with chips and salsa anytime I go eat Mexican food, and this time was no exception, but at least their portion sizes were slightly smaller. Haha!

I know this picture quality is AWFUL, but this dish was so flavorful! It was a vegetetable side with cauliflower, cauliflower puree, marcona almonds, golden raisins, and some really delicious sauces. I LOVED it!

Gluten Free Sausage and Kale Quiche :)

Gluten Free Sausage and Kale Quiche :)

My stepsister recently told me about 5 Points Local when I was in town. When she said the words "Everything in the whole restaurant is gluten free" I HAD to go ASAP. I had really high hopes for this place, and I was not disappointed. It's pretty amazing. I have now tried a lot of the items on their menu (although I really wish I would have tried the empanadas), and everything has been amazing.  The only thing that wasn't great was their Chia Pudding, which I know they're sort of working on the recipe for, so I'm sure it will get better. Here is a link to their menu, and below I'm showing some of the items I've tried. Go here ASAP. You will not be disappointed! Oh, and I forgot to mention what makes this place even better is that every single person who works there is so incredibly nice, and not in a fake way.  It's almost like you're walking into an alternate universe of kindness.  I'm sure the yoga int he same building has something to do with it.

Karma Bowl - Quinoa, roasted sweet potatoes, black beans, garden greens drizzled with our cashew crema aka "Kitchen Crack".

This is the Karma Bowl with an egg and avocado added to it. It's incredibly flavorful and filling. Highly recommend it!

Egg-Centric Grilled Cheese: Sunny side up free-range egg, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and sautéed spinach served with mixed greens tossed in our house citrus vinaigrette

Quiche of the Day - Made with free-range eggs and served with mixed greens and tossed in our house citrus vinaigrette

As you can see, I tried everything. Had to! :) I had the pumpkin bread, the Vinkie and the Hee Hees. The next time I came, I tried the Banana Bread with chocolate chips. That was pretty phenomal too. If I had to choose, though, I think I would go with the Vinkie or the Pumpkin bread.

The Vegan, GF twinkie was really interesting and really good. Apparently they make it with the same batter as their pumpkin bread (SO GOOD, btw) and they fill it with a coconut-based cream mixture. At first I thought I liked the pumpkin bread more than the Vinkie, but now I'm not sure. The Vinkie was really moist and almost tasted like it had been soaked in something like tres leches cake. So good!!

On a side note, they also have fresh-pressed organic juices. I totally slacked in that department, so I will definitely have to try those next time. Enjoy!!

Update from Thanksgiving 2016:

We tried the Apple Pie, the Pumpkin Pie, their bread, banana bread (had already tried but had to make sure it was still good ;) and a couple more of their new items. I still love this place and just wanted to let you know that it's holding up to my previous review. The German Chocolate Cake is better than any cake I've ever had, including what I can remember before celiac disease.
