I’ve heard about this bakery for a few years, but I haven’t had a chance to check it out until today. Apparently their products are also sold in the freezer sections at Whole Foods and Mariano’s, but for some reason I’ve never seen them.
Anyway, I went here for a cake tasting, and I really wasn’t expecting much after my tasting at Tipsy Cake (Tipsy Cake does greats macarons and pavlovas though). I was really pleasantly surprised. The only thing that was odd was that they don’t do a traditional “cake tasting”. They just let you pick out cupcakes that they have available that day. It was pretty much the same. I just thought I would make note of it.
I tried the:
- Salted Caramel Cupcake with Salted Caramel Buttercream Frosting
- Chocolate Cupcake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
- Carrot Cake Cupcake with Cream Cheese Frosting
- Red Velvet Cupcake with Cream Cheese Frosting
I would say that my overall favorite was the Chocolate Cupcake, although the Salted Caramel came in a close second. It just seemed like the Chocolate Cupcake was the best balance of flavor in addition to being more moist than all of the others. Once the Salted Caramel defrosted more, it became more moist as well, and it was definitely the most interesting flavor.
The Carrot Cake cupcake was really good, although I’ve had better gluten free carrot cake, so I couldn’t rate it highest.
The Red Velvet was kind of disappointing. I’m not sure if it was just that batch, but it was the least moist, although the frosting was really good. I hope this helps if you ever stop by! :)
If you’re in or near Hinsdale, it’s definitely worth a trip!
